Professional Management of Complex Behaviour - Safety Strategies & De-escalation

Description

This course is designed to equip staff with an approach to abusive, violent and aggressive behaviour in their workplace. It is focused on scenarios in which the risk of harm is real and significant. The course objectives are to prevent harm, de-escalate volatile situations and if that has not been possible minimise harm should behaviour become violent.

This course will provide learners, from all health and social care disciplines, including medical, nursing, emergency care, security and portering with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand complex behaviours within their health and social care context in order to effectively plan, deliver, and evaluate interventions that are needs assessed,
safe, effective, appropriate, and relevant to the clinical setting within which it is delivered.

It is a team based approach, defining roles and responsibilities, practicing effective communication and promoting supportive debriefing practices. A whole team approach realises a contemporary person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented best practice.
